Geddy Lee announces new memoir, release slated for 2022
Geddy Lee has announced the imminent publication of a memoir currently slated for fall 2022.
Lee shared the news via Instagram where his username is @geddyimages, which is still one of the best celebrity social media nicknames of all time, but we’re declining.
The long Instagram post caption reads, in part, “My friend and Big Beautiful Book of Bass contributor Daniel Richler saw how much I struggled following Neil [Peart]going on, and tried to pull me out of my blues with funny stories from his youth, daring me to share mine in return. So I did – reluctantly at first, but then remembering, oh yeah, I like wrestling with words. It’s a less physical version of the argument with musical notes, without a double-necked Ricky breaking my back! And soon my baby stories turned into adult chapters. Being the nuclear obsession that I am, I would write them down and rewrite them, reassessing the perspectives in the narrative not only scouring my memory banks but also my diaries and stacks of photo albums. I was putting together a mystery of a different kind.
Lee continued, âThen I would send these enhanced and even illustrated stories to Daniel, who would clean up some of the grammar and remove a lot of the swearing (I love to swear), and presto! In a ringing voice, well, just like me, a presentable and epic tale of my life on and off the stage was taking shape: my childhood, my family, my parents’ survival story, my travels. and all kinds of nonsense that I’ve spent too much time obsessed with. And Daniel said, ‘I think you’re writing a book. A real memory, in fact. To which I replied: ‘Hmm … I guess I am.’ “
Lee concluded, “I’m rounding off third place on this still untitled memoir, which will be published by HarperCollins, edited by Noah Eaker, and slated for release in fall 2022.”
