Peter O’Mahony praises Munster’s ‘massive belief’ after Leinster win
PETER O’Mahony was at the heart of Munster’s 27-3 win over Leinster on Saturday night and he firmly believes that they are a team headed in the right direction.
O’Mahony, 31, has been the victim of numerous clashes against Leo Cullen’s Blues.
Saturday was the first time Munster had beaten Leinster since 2018 and although it was against a weakened side, the Ireland international naturally appreciated the result.
Despite Munster’s exceptional championship season and European Cup victories against Clermont and the Harlequins, questions have been asked about Johann Van Graan’s project in recent weeks.
The manner of the loss to Leinster in the Guinness Pro14 final discouraged many supporters, but O’Mahony insists there has always been a massive belief in the team and still is. .
“It showed it was a huge test for us and it took one of our best performances probably of the year to get the result, so that was very important,” said the Corkman.
“Listen, we believe in the team very much, we strongly believe in the group that we are building and the players have incredible confidence in our coaching staff.
“This team won 16 out of 20 games in Pro14, you know what I mean, it’s not very documented, I know.
“I know we haven’t beaten Leinster in a while, but we are winning a lot of games. We strongly believe in our club and what we do and that was another big step forward for us, but there is a huge belief in it.
